Volunteer at Synergy!

Synergy Academies is building out its Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) programs at all three of its schools. Synergy is looking for professionals in a STEM-related career to speak to our students about their job experience. If you want to volunteer on a more regular basis, you can consider becoming a co-teacher or teaching assistant to help 4 days per week from approximately 8-9:30 a.m. during our computer science programming class as part of our collaboration with TEALS (http://www.tealsk12.org/).  Additionally, if you are thinking about making a career change from a STEM profession to becoming a secondary math, science, or engineering teacher, then you can volunteer at our schools via the EnCorps Teachers Program to see if teaching is a career for you (http://encorps.org/).

Volunteers are also welcome to help in a number of ways at our schools such as serving as mentors for our older students and helping our seniors write their personal statements for their college applications. Learn more about these opportunities via our Young Professionals Council.

Companies have also chosen Synergy's schools to conduct company-wide volunteer projects. For instance, Mercer's Los Angeles office has conducted its annual Community Service Day at Synergy's high school.  During this special Community Service Day, Synergy's juniors interacted with working professionals from Mercer on a special group project and teams of Synergy students presented their final projects in front of the entire group. The Mercer LA office and staff have also donated money towards Synergy's annual college field trips and provided college scholarships to Synergy's graduating seniors.

Boston Consulting Group has also implemented its Business@Schools program at Synergy's high school, the only high school to implement this program in the United States. As part of this weekly after school program, Synergy's students work with BCG mentors to analyze existing companies, provide consulting services to local businesses, and create their own start-up companies. In addition to the weekly meetings, Synergy's students participate in three Business@Schools competitions.
